It is important to remember that the vast majority of Tibet is not within a couple minutes of the highway and to truly see Tibet as most Tibetans experience it we must WALK. Wind Horse staff pioneered commercial trekking in Tibet over 15 years ago and some of these routes are offered only by Wind Horse. Each of these itineraries involves at least a few days of trekking but they vary considerably from the three day circumambulation of Mt. Kailash to the extended ten-days trekking to the Kangshung face of Everest. There are unlimited possibilities for trekking in Tibet and we are more than happy to suggest and put together new trips.

Conditions are variable and sometimes harsh at high altitude so we do our best to make our treks as comfortable as possible. We always arrange portage (usually yaks or horses) so you only need to carry a day pack with minimal snacks, water and accessories. We plan daily stages to suit the abilities of the group and to allow for proper acclimatization.

We encourage you to look at a guidebook to gain more information (Gary McCue's Trekking in Tibet, describes a wide, but by no means exhaustive, variety of treks). Tibet Wind Horse Adventure is proud of our trekking heritage and we look forward to introducing Tibet without the roads.

Wind Horse or Lung-ta (in Tibetan) is a common name and becuase of this and our reputation in Tibet a number of other businesses have used similar names to us. We respect others rights to operate fair competition but a number of companies have set up in Kathmandu and Chengdu (China) that have blatantly copied our name and much of our website content. We apologise for any confusion this may cause and request that guests and clients be sure of which company they are booking with. It's simple....just ask if the company you are booking with is called Tibet Wind Horse Adventure and is based in Lhasa. (you can double check by asking if GT Sonam is the company founder) We sometimes get called Wind Horse Travel, Wind Horse Tour, Windhorsetour or Windhorsetours, Windhorse adventure or Tibet Wind Horse. or simply Windhorse. There is a Chinese company based in Chengdu that calls itself windhorsetour and uses the website www.windhorsetour.com Please don't confuse this company with us. This company is nothing to do with Tibet Wind Horse Adventure and is actually called CYTS. (China Youth Travel Service)
